Who we are
We are Clear Sight Consulting LLC, dba Clear Sight Books. Our website address is: https://clearsightbooks.com.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
(NOTE: Comments are currently turned off on this website, but it’s possible they will be turned on at some point.)
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Mailing list
If you subscribe to our email list, we collect your name and email address in order to communicate with you. Our email sign-up process requires a double opt-in to ensure you wish to receive communications from us.
Analytics
We run Google Analytics to better understand users’ interest in our site. We’re pretty low key here. It’s fun to see how many visitors are landing on our website, and what page they found most enjoyable to read (based on time spent on the page). What we observe helps us decide what to write next and how to help people find what they need.
Other client information
If you have a client relationship with Clear Sight Books, other information will be collected in order to provide services, including but not limited to: name, phone number, physical or mailing address, website, credit card information, business information.
Who we share your data with
We do not share or sell your information to other companies who would then market to you.
We share data with third parties who help us provide services. For example:
- This website is built on a WordPress platform; by default WordPress does not share any personal data with anyone.
- Our mailing list is managed by MailChimp. Here are MailChimp’s policies.
- We use Google Analytics. Read about the Google Analytics privacy policy, their use of cookies, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and much more. If you’d like to opt out of Google Analytics, install the Google Analytics opt-out extension in your Chrome browser.
- For client payments via credit card, we use Intuit’s secure credit card processing. Here is their privacy policy and security center.
Additionally we may share relevant client information with contractors who are working on a client project. For example, someone providing proofreading or book design services may require client contact information and working documents, but not financial information. In such cases, the client always knows and has direct access to the contractor.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you’re on our mailing list, we retain your data indefinitely 1) to communicate with you until you choose to unsubscribe and 2) for analytical purposes unless you request we delete your information.
We maintain anonymized analytics reports indefinitely.
We maintain financial records generally for seven years, for tax purposes.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
You can choose to unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time. There is an unsubscribe button on every email sent via MailChimp. If you have trouble with it, contact Clear Sight Books and we can unsubscribe you manually.
If you have specific requests about your data, please contact us directly. We will remove or delete any data we can, subject to any legal or tax recordkeeping requirements.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
We send data only to the service providers mentioned above. We are a very small company and try to choose reputable providers with strong data protection practices.
Policy updates
This policy was last updated May 24, 2018 (and last reviewed April 22, 2024). Technical and legal standards keep evolving, so as we learn more about how to do this well, this policy may be updated from time to time without notice. Feel free to check back as often as you like.
